Wow, I can't believe it has been so long since my first post...this thing was supposed to help me keep everyone updated on us, but I guess I have to actually keep it up for it to serve its purpose.
Hallelujah, halloween is over! I have never understood people who love halloween and decorate their yards and homes for the occasion. (If you are one of these people, let me know why you love it.) Halloween's only redeeming quality is the over abundance of candy now spilling over the edges of bowls in my kitchen and adding unneeded poundage to my belly and thighs.
My kids were of course adorable. Kameron insisted on being Ironman, a costume which could only be found at one of those seasonal halloween stores that costs a small fortune although is only a nylon uni-tard with plastic mask (which he realized at the Fall Festival that he didn't like to wear because it made his face sweat.) Logan wanted to be a black cat, but since I had two Lion costumes his size, I got Kameron to help me convince him that a Lion is a way better Cat than a plain old black one. I painstakingly painted his face, only to have it destroyed and smeared beyond recognition as he wet his paws while washing his hands and then proceeded to chew on the sleeves. Kyleigh decided two days before halloween that she did not like wearing a hood and so I began frantically looking for a costume that did not include a hood. Thankfully I found one on ebay and then stressed for two days that I wouldn't get it in time. I got it at 2pm on Friday! The I realized that she didn't have any non-sandal shoes to wear which would be okay if it wasn't raining! So in costume we headed to Babies'r'us in search of shoes wide enough to fit her chubby little feet. Did I say I dislike halloween?
I am always horrified by most of the costumes I see roaming the church parking lots each year, and this year did not disappoint. There was no shortage of heavyset girls in bloody prom dresses slinking around on the arm of some ghoulish pubescent plastic masked boys, or 8-10 year old super-hero wannabees karate chopping and punching their way through crowds of people with no parent in sight. Princesses and Cheerleaders of all ages, sizes and colors clinging together in groups not wanting to be left alone amongst all the hoodlums. And those precious fuzzy-sleeper clad pre-schoolers and toddlers in every animal variety you can imagine covered from chin to hairline with chocolate, cotton-candy, lollipop stickiness. Of course there are those "ladies" (I use this term loosely) who are not dressed as a character per se, in fact, one has to wonder if it's even a costume at all, more like a street walker. Justin guessed that Halloween may be the one night they can dress that way and not feel inappropriate. Whatever the case, I am glad it is over and that I can now look forward to those Holidays I do love, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hope to hear from you all soon!!
